Job Description 🎯 You will be a trusted legal partner to our Product and R&D leadership and teams, as our privacy and product counsel. As such you will specifically be supporting our Product and R&D teams, developing further our readiness for AI regulation and advising on wider digital regulatory requirements, to allow n8n to keep building and be early. You will also help shape a modern, AI-first legal strategy as part of a growing Legal team, and bring your product insight to the technology and commercial deals where it makes the difference. You will report to the General Counsel. What success looks like after 6 months: you are the go-to legal partner in Product and R&D roadmap, you design and launch reviews, our AI regulation readiness plan is in place with clear owners, and templates and playbooks are updated so the wider Legal team can run standard deals without R&D and Product related escalation.
Partner with Product and R&D (c. 80% of the role) Partner with the existing Legal team to build out our current approach to AI regulation: EU AI Act readiness and risk classification, AI risk assessments, model and provider due diligence, AI use policies, and customer-facing AI transparency commitments. Partner with others in the Legal team on our response to the wider digital regulatory landscape for software (for example the EU Data Act, and other digital regulation), from horizon scanning through to product readiness and compliance roadmaps. Be the embedded Product and Engineering partner, joining roadmap, design and launch reviews, advising on platform and product terms from the design stage, and turning legal requirements into clear product requirements engineers can build against. Advise on open-source, fair-code and open-core licensing, and on IP questions around AI-generated outputs, machine learning models and training data. Partner with others in the Legal team on privacy questions that arise in product design. Support Product and Engineering with customer, community and regulator questions about how our products meet legal requirements. Support complex technology and commercial deals (c. 20% of the role) Review, draft and negotiate technology-heavy agreements (SaaS and self-hosted), partnership and integration, and AI model and cloud provider contracts. Partner with sales, partnerships and revenue teams on complex enterprise deals with AI or product requirements. Deliver creative, risk-based solutions that protect the business, and feed deal learnings back into product decisions. Scale legal as a business enabler Solve legal questions in real time with a builder mindset. Improve and maintain scalable legal templates, playbooks and training materials together with the Legal team, so that standard deals and product questions do not need legal involvement, so the wider Legal team can run standard deals without escalation. Collaborate with our Automation and Legal Operations to improve our self-serve legal processes and tooling.
